Support from the Canton of Valais to the tourism economy

We relay information of the State Council from Valais

June 17, 2020 – Coronavirus (COVID-19) Promotional action “Valais Tourism”

The COVID-19 crisis had an impact on everyone’s daily life and strongly affected many sectors of the Valais economy, in particular tourism, viticulture, agriculture and local products. In order to attract customers to Valais and to stimulate consumption, the State Council wished to be proactive and thus to guarantee that the tourist activities recovery is accompanied by the promotion of local products and recreation opportunities in Valais .

For this reason, it decided to grant an additional maximum credit of 16 million francs. The latter will support  the realization of a promotional action intended for the hosts of Valais. This should directly support the producers from Valais and the tourist providers affected by COVID-19.

Placed under the banner “Valais tourism”, the objective of this promotional action is to thank people who stay in our region, by offering them advantages in the form of vouchers. The state approach revolves around three main offers:

  • First, we will thank the owners of second homes for their contribution to meeting health requirements during the acute phase of the pandemic by handing over a 50 francs voucher for Valais cheese and a 40 francs voucher for Valais wine.
  • Another measure is intended for visitors to the “open cellars” which will take place from August 28 to 30. They will receive, for an order of at least twelve wine bottles (not cumulative), a voucher for a skiing day at the participating ski lifts.
  • The last action will take the form of 100 francs vouchers to be used in partnering shops and providers in Valais who are involved in this action. Those vouchers will be offered for any reservation of a minimum of two consecutive nights in a hotel establishment during the period from July 15 to December 15, 2020.

The details of the implementation of this promotional offer must still be settled with the different partners. By these concrete measures, the State Council wishes to contribute to the recovery in both the tourism and local products sectors.
